At a time when almost everybody had written off Onyango Oloo from Kisumu politics, he pulled a surprise in a move that many never saw coming and resurrected his political career that was about to hit a bumpy stretch.
During the 2007 election, Oloo was a key member of Raila Odinga's ODM political vehicle which he used to contest for presidency. However, he would later chart his own political path when he ditched the party in the run to the 2013 poll. Surprisingly, he became a key pillar in the formation of the The National Alliance, the party that propelled Uhuru Kenyatta to the Presidency.
A powerful and influential Secretary General of the ruling party, Oloo was at the center of the country's leadership even as he fired salvos at his former-ally-turned-foe, Raila Odinga.
With the merger of Jubilee Coalition affiliate parties to form Jubilee Party, Oloo lost his influence in the new outfit and was pushed to the periphery. And he had to find an escape route.
In a move that took many by surprise, he went back 'home' as he decamped to ODM where he claimed that he had all along been Raila's spy in Jubilee.
With a promise to "do everything possible to make Raila President", the former 'traitor' had become a hero and his political career was back on track. And though he lost in his bid for the party ticket to contest the Kisumu Central MP seat, he was elected Kisumu County Assembly Speaker, an influential position for a man who emerged from 'nowhere'.
Ahead of the 2022 election, Oloo finds himself at the center of Kisumu politics. Where will it end?
