Nominated MP Amina Abdalla who is eying the Mombasa Women Representative seat holds the record for being nominated to parliament more than any other politician.
The 48-year-old politician was first nominated to parliament in 2002 by KANU having played a crucial role campaigning for the then presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta. After the 2007 elections, she was nominated to parliament for the second time.In 2013, she made a huge plunge into elective politics where she contested for the Kisauni parliamentary seat on a TNA ticket. However, her bid was unsuccessful as she lost to Rashid Bedzimba of ODM.Her party came to her rescue as she was nominated to parliament for the third time to extend her tenure at the National Assembly to 15 years.Considered President Uhuru Kenyatta’s key ally and political pillar in the pro-opposition county, Abdalla was rewarded to chair the Environment Committee in the National Assembly. With only 48 days remaining to the August 8 polls, she has hit the ground running. On Monday, she took her campaigns to Shanzu where she asked the residents to support her Women Rep bid.Abdalla, who is vying on a Jubilee ticket, said she has what it takes to fit into the shoes of the incumbent Mishi Mboko who will be vying for the Likoni parliamentary seat.According to Abdalla, should she clinch the seat, she will give priority to women and children needs which she said have not been addressed. She asked the residents to vote for the right leaders irrespective of their political parties.Abdalla will face among others ODM’s Aisha Hussein who is viewed by many as a favourite and Zam Zam Mohamed of Wiper Party. As to whether she will be nominated for the fourth time should she fail in her Mombasa Women Rep bid remains to be seen.
