A 25-year-old former University of Eldoret student recently scooped a cool Sh5 million after winning the Blaze Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) season 2 competition.

The student, Brian Kiplimo Rono is a potato farmer from Lembus village in Baringo County.

He comes from a humble family of eight and is the last born.

Kiplimo did Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science from the University of Eldoret, a course he acknowledges was tough and difficult.

He graduated with a second-class honors upper division in November 2015. 

According to the student, now a millionaire, the University of Eldoret played a major role in his success through leadership, mentorship when taking him through the actuarial science course. 

“I am grateful for the University of Eldoret for having mentored me through leadership; having taken me through a course that was really difficult and tough but to come out successful,” said Kipimo after winning the competition.

Having won the Blaze GRIT edition, Kiplimo enjoys Sh2 million business support and extra cash worth Sh3 million.

According to the University's Dean at the School of Science, Dr. Victor Kimeli, Kiplimo has proved himself worthy and made the institution proud.

“We really appreciate what Brian has done in going through as a student of actuarial science but proved himself worthy in agriculture in his potato farm, and it is exciting as one of them has done us proud,” said Kimeli.
