She has been a consistent contributor, with over 300 of her articles getting published since she came in.

The prolific, upcoming, ambitious journalist has in the past four months made close to Sh30,000 from published stories, making a livelihood out of writing for Hivisasa.com.

The secret, she says, is that almost all of her stories are accompanied by original photos of the events she covers.

Vickie who is in her twenties recalls clearly how she discovered the online local news platform.

“A very close friend of mine, Dickens Luvanda, an editor at the company introduced me to Hivisasa.com late 2017. It was like a joke. I didn't know I could do online writing and become prolific," says the optimistic journalist who is always ranked between top 5 and 20 in the company's monthly writer rankings.

"This was the beginning of a life that has seen me grow from a story a week to where I am today,” recalls Vickie who has been widely writing National politics and county-angled articles.

She says she has to ensure she writes all the stories she collects throughout the day and submit them before some become stale.

"Sometimes the schedule fails but I strive to hit my targets daily. Rejections never discouraged me,"

But what motivates her?

"The passion for journalism and writing drives me," she says "I am determined that my story has to and will be published." even though it is not a smooth sailing."

Asked whether Hivisasa.com has changed her life, she responds "the platform has greatly helped me improve my journalistic career.”

Vickie advises fellow Hivisasa writers not to give up.

"Stay optimistic, take criticism positively and you'll prosper," she notes.
