A granny from Kericho, Sarah Chepkurui Maina could be the world's oldest person according to her family which claims she is 138 years old at the moment, alive and kicking.

Chepkurui who leaves in Ainamoi constituency in Kericho county was born in 1880 and according to African history, this is the time when Europeans started scrambling to colonize Africa in what was popularly known us Scramble for Africa. 

Mrs. Maina has wrinkles on her face symbolizing her advancement in age and holds an ID card with the oldest format indicating that she was born in 1920. However, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have denied this birth date giving an evidence of her eldest daughter who is 92 years old with ID card indicating that she was born in 1926. Her last born Reuben Marsoi is 54 years old.

Speaking to Kenya News Agency (KNA) Marsoi said that his mother's long life is attributed to living in peace and harmony, and seeking forgiveness. He added that his mum survives on tea, milk, and ugali and prefers to live alone.

“My mother wakes up at around 7 am every morning and only takes a cup of tea for breakfast. She takes her dinner at 3 pm, which mostly consists of milk and ugali and retires to bed at 6 pm. We at times request her that she stay with someone such as having one of her grandchildren live with her but she says no, saying she prefers to stay alone,” said Marsoi as quoted by business today.co.ke

Granny Sarah is unable to see but still has a strong sense of hearing which she uses to recognize her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the fourth generation. 

Violet Brown from Jamaica who died in September 2017 was the world's oldest woman and was in the Guinness Book of World Records. In the Bible, Abraham's wife Sarah died at the age of 127, 11 years less than Sarah from Kericho's age.
