Speaking in Changamwe on Wednesday, Awiti said Mombasa residents, and not the Luhya Community, will elect the county's governor in the upcoming polls, adding that “anybody going to seek support from outside will be surprised.”

This comes after ANC Coast secretary general Jimmy Azangu said the meeting was convened to discuss the interests of the Luhya Community in the county.

According to The Star, the community is seeking the position of Speaker, two executive posts and several MCA slots.

ANC chairman Kelvin Lunani, said the community which, is also eying the Nyali parliamentary seat, has about 50,000 registered voters in the county.

However, Mombasa County director of communication Richard Chacha said the two leaders met to discuss national issues, including the formation of the opposition's super alliance NASA.
