However, a statement from State House Nairobi, dated June 28 indicates that, Mrs Gates, who is the Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda gates Foundation, pointed out that her foundation, which supports several health initiatives in Kenya has invested a lot in maternal and child health, is ready to extend support to the First Lady’s health initiatives.

“We have been working in Kenya for quite some time and our focus has been on various sectors including agriculture, health, financial services and social justice,” said Mrs Gates.

On her part, Margaret Kenyatta also updated Mrs Gates on the positive impact her Beyond Zero campaign has had on Kenyan families particularly on creating awareness on concerns of maternal and child health.

“What made me initiate this campaign was the high statistics on maternal and child mortality,” said Margaret.

According to The Beyond Zero Campaign’s website, the initiative aims to help mothers and children thrive, whether urban or rural, HIV positive or not and understand challenges to maternal, newborn and child health.

43 out of 47 counties have now been delivered with the Beyond zero fully kitted clinic.
