The county government of Uasin Gishu is urging all learning institutions in the region to champion for disaster management regulations to curb calamities.

Speaking over the weekend in Arnesen’s High School in Burnt Forest - Ainabkoi sub county when he donated goodies on behalf of Governor Jackson Mandago, Trade CeC Phillip Melly said schools should be equipped with the necessary tools to aid in handling disasters.

“We want to see our schools in good and safe positions at all times. Students should also be assured of their safety,” said Melly. 

The county donated 50 metallic boxes, 121 branded shirts and 121 branded sweaters with the school's logo for the affected students. One of the school's dormitory (Menengai) on May 16 caught fire leading to loss of property. 

The school’s principal Rurii Kimani said the cause of the incident is yet to be known.

He said reconstruction of the dormitory will cost over Sh1 million.

Present during the event were Lands CeC Robert Ng’isirei, who is also the school's board member and Ainabkoi sub county administrator Florance Lagat.
