Eldoret Catholic Diocese on Wednesday held a memorial mass for its departed Bishop Cornelius Korir.

The low-key mass was held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Eldoret town led the newly appointment Apostolic administrator Bishop Maurice Crowley.

Bishop Crowley of the Kitale Catholic Diocese was last week appointed by the Vatican to take over the leadership role at the Eldoret Catholic Diocese on a temporary basis until a substantive Bishop is appointed.

This was Bishop Crowley's first mass at the Eldoret Cathedral since his appointment.

Speaking during the mass, Uasin Gishu County Executive in charge of Water and Environment Mary Njogu who represented governor Jackson Mandago said the county government will continue the many development projects that had been initiated by the late Bishop Korir.

"Bishop Korir was a friend to our governor and we appreciate that he had the interests of people at heart through many projects he had and this is why we will keep supporting all those initiatives to ensure they achieve their intended purposes," Njogu said.

Bishop Korir died on October 30 at his house in Elgon View estate in Eldoret town after a short illness after serving for 27 years.He was buried inside the Eldoret Cathedral on November 11 according to the Catholic church doctrines.
