The men aged between 35-50 years say that they do not fit in any category of people earmarked to be assisted by the government through any program.

Cyrus Ngare, 41, a farmer from Karinjai village says, “I just cannot understand how and why the government has deliberately left us out. It should be catering for each and every person, young or old. There is no single programme in which our age group fits, and yet we are the ones who are looked upon to provide for the family.”

He said that boys and girls aged 13-18 years were benefiting from bursary funds, while the youth aged 18-34 were benefiting from the youth enterprise and Uwezo funds set aside for them.

A small scale trader at the Githunguri market, Johannes Mwaura says he was unable to access any funds to boost his business.

“The only place he could access funds was from banks which are charging high interest rates that most of them could not pay,” said he.

Ngarau Njonjo, the sub county gender officer says that men are supposed to be independent at 35 years.

He added that they were expected to be attached to a female to be able to benefit on behalf of the wife.
