Men have been urged to help in family planning efforts in order to maintain family stabilities.
Speaking during a workshop organised by the Nakuru Family Planning Association that was attended by women and youth groups at a Nakuru hotel on Friday, Nakuru County Women Representative Mary Mbugua argued that it was the responsibility of both men and women to plan families, and the task should not be left only to women.
Mbugua said that many families in Kenya were experiencing socio-economic problems, because men fail to recognize the need to plan families and blame their women for problems that arise from having unmanageable families.
She noted that the growing high cost of living in the country calls for proper measures in family planning, to enable people sustain themselves socio-economically.
“Our men believe that it is the duty of women to plan families or simply to give birth. They should do all they can to help their women in family planning,” said Mbugua.
“Instead they blame women for giving birth to many children or not giving birth,” added Mbugua.
She further noted that many socio-economic problems like unemployment, poverty and diseases facing many families in the country can be reduced if people; especially in rural and informal settlements embrace family planning.
