Kenya Farmers Association(KFA) director Kipkorir Arap Menjo has decried poor services by National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) to farmers while delivering their maize.
He said some farmers have stayed in the cues for over one week without being attended to.
“It sad that we have two line one for imported maize from Uganda and the other one for us local farmers making us stay in the cues for many days thus increasing the costs incurred on transport and security. Why should they import maize from Uganda yet we have enough,” he said after meeting farmers in Eldoret town, Tuesday.
“As farmers from this region we won’t allow maize from Uganda, we will only accept one line which is for local farmers. Some of the farmers have stayed on the cues for many days forcing them to sell their produce to brokers at a throwaway price of Sh 2,500,” he added.
He, however, urged NCPB to ensure they pay farmers promptly after delivering their produce.
“We are not happy with the way NCPB is paying us after delivering our maize, the last time we received our payments was on 15th November 2017, they should do something,” noted Menjo.
