Speaking to the media in Eldoret town, Menjo said farmers were not happy about the government's move to buy a 90kg bag of maize at a very low price which does not profit them.

"If our plea is not heard, we will be on the streets to demand that a bag of maize be bought at Sh3,000 and not 2,300," said Menjo.

In addition, farmers from the larger North Rift have vowed not to sell their maize to NCPB if prices are not increased.

"I bought fertilizers, seeds and did land preparation with quite a hustle I can't sell my maize at a loss," said Hillary Kurgat, a farmer in Eldoret.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett is yet to respond to the farmers' plea.
