A-17-year-old minor from Magumu village, Makwa in Gatundu North sub-county on Saturday evening hanged herself on a window grill.
The victim, Mary Njeri, is reported to have passed away late evening after the tragic incident.
According to Wanjiru; the mother, her daughter, who was a student at Nagina Secondary school has been suffering from a mental disability, and had been out of school for three months now after some mental illness was detected.
“I’ve been taking her for medication but the unforeseen happened, left the house for a short while and she took the opportunity to hang herself on a window grill. She was very bright and committed to her studies until when the disability was detected and that is when she took a vacation for treatment,” the grieving mother narrated.
The body was taken to General Cargo Mortuary in Thika with the family left to plan on when to pay their last respect to Njeri.
Meanwhile, parents have been asked not to leave their disabled children alone and instead to offer them all-time support to avoid such incidents.
Nancy Muthoni, a counselor says mental illness can trigger such rash decisions from victims, and argued that the reasoning capacity of a mentally challenged person is always low.
