A mentally ill man was on Tuesday evening seriously injured after a fast-moving pick up car along the Nakuru-Subukia road hit him as he crossed the road at Muchanganyiko market centre. The vehicle, according to sources, did not stop even as angry residents flagged it down. A witness, Gabriel Moturi, who runs a shoe repair business near the scene of the accident, said the victim, identified as Micah Gekundo, was drunk and was hit on the limps as he dithered on the busy road. “I heard a bang and loud screech of brakes. When I rushed to the scene, the victim was writhing in pain while the car started moving on,” the witness said. “I helped move him at the edge of the road to avoid another accident.” Area assistant chief Joseph Gitonga, who rushed to the scene after receiving information, asked residents to exercise caution when crossing or walking along the road that has so far claimed several lives. He petitioned the county government to construct bumps at the market centre section of the newly constructed road. The sources said that the victim was rushed and admitted at St Antony hospital with serious head and limp injuries. His brother, a secondary school teacher, said the injured man is epileptic.
