Police are pursuing mentally ill patients who have escaped from the Mathari Mental Hospital in Nairobi.

The patients were reportedly set free by the striking nurses demanding implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The strike of nurses has been going on for nearly two weeks despite the Council of Governors(CoG) insisting that it is illegal.

They urged the nurses to return to work before beginning any negotiations with their union.

Police have said that some of the patients are armed and could cause harm to other people.

They have cautioned the public of a possibility of being attacked near and along Thika Road.

Twenty of the escapees have since been taken back to the facility.
