Police in Arash area of Subukia are investigating the death of a mentally unstable man believed to have jumped in front of a moving vehicle.

The Saturday evening incident which left the area residents in shock, saw the 32-year-old man identified as Samuel karanja Mureithi, die while undergoing treatment at the Subukia District Hospital.

Eye witnesses said that Mureithi threw himself in front of a fast moving vehicle along the Nakuru-Nyahururu Highway near Subukia Secondary School.

Residents said that Karanja had been suffering from a spate of depression for the last few years.

Confirming the incident, Subukia area Police Boss Alex Ng’ang’a said that Mureithi was hit by a private car.

Ng’ang’a cited that Mureithi sustained serious injuries and succumbed to them when he was being rushed to the hospital for treatment just a few minutes later.

He said that the driver and the vehicle that knocked Mureithi are in custody awaiting investigations

“A postmortem will be carried out on the body to establish the cause of the man’s death and to allow for further investigation into the matter,” said Ng’ang’a.

He called on drivers to be careful and on the lookout for mentally unstable persons.

The body was taken to Subukia District Hospital pending a postmortem.
