Residents of Menyenya village in Nyamira County have asked the government to act in speed and arrest a man who has allegedly been coordinating attacks in the region targeting women and children.
Speaking on Wednesday during the burial of a lady who was allegedly murdered and her badly mutilated body dumped in a nearby bush, they pointed fingers at the police for failing to act despite numerous reports about the suspect.
According to the residents, the man, who has since gone missing after angry youths descended his home recently, was behind the attacks whose aims was still a mystery.
“What is happening in this region is very serious. We have evidence that he is behind all these unwarranted attacks whose motives are unknown. He managed to escape recently when youths descended in his house,” said Peter Rasugu.
“Our police are not doing enough. About five victims have reported in the nearby Matutu Police station but nothing has been done. The accused is a dangerous species in the society and is said to be working with a secret group,” added Charles Mogere.
They gave police an ultimatum of a week to arrest and arraign the suspect before the court to answer charges on murder.
However, Sergeant Felix Kioko of Matutu police defended officers on any wrong doing, and asked residents with information regarding the attacks to report.
“They are only accusing but none of them has recorded a statement. We cannot follow a ghost whom we don’t know the specific accusations. Let them cooperate with us,” he said.
