Residents of Menyinkwa village in Bonyarorando location in Nyamira County are counting losses following the increased theft of chicken, household items and farm products in the area.
The residents led by Jared Omariba said police officers operating in the area are lazy watching as the locals are losing property to youths who are using shortcuts to earn a living.
"We are lving in fear because the idling youths who have turned to be criminals may soon start attacking us in broad day light to steal from us. Police must move with speed to help contain the situation failure to which we will continue losing property to criminals,” said Omariba.
He said the latest incident is where on Wednesday armed youths broke into a house in the village and made away with household items valued at Sh100,000.
“Thugs are broking to people’s houses who are away from home to steal household items. We have reported to police but no suspect has been arrested by police. It seems police are colluding with the criminals who are well known in the area,” he added.
Omariba called on Nyamira County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru to come to their rescue and order police in the area to be vigilant and arrest the thugs.
