President Uhuru Kenyatta has been urged to visit Meru region to ensure voters there rally behind him in the August general election.

Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi said NASA’s attempts to woo voters in the rich Meru region may make the Jubilee party lose some ground in the area.

The lawmaker, who was once a Raila supporter, said he will flee to exile if the ODM leader wins the next general election, because his life will be in danger.

“If Raila wins, I will be the first person he’ll kill. I will ensure Uhuru wins because I cannot stand a Raila administration,” Aburi said, as quoted by Tuko.

Warning that Meru is becoming a swing county, whose voters may be persuaded to back either side, Aburi urged President Kenyatta to discount aides telling not to worry about Meru voters not fully supporting him. He accused some leaders of not telling the president the truth.

“You must come and camp in Meru because it’s yours. Stop concentrating on people who did not vote for you,” Tuko quoted the president as saying.

“Uhuru should focus on areas that supported him because Meru is not good. Some leaders are lying to you that Meru is behind you — that’s a lie,” he added.

Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi last week said that Jubilee is facing a serious crisis in Meru over unfulfilled promises.

“It is four years down the line, yet nothing has been done. The miraa-growing areas are gone unless Jubilee makes urgent interventions to correct the situation,” he told the Star.
