Speaking to Hivisasa.com on Wednesday following careless driving that has reportedly led to critical injuries to pedestrians in the area, a section of Gesima trading centre residents cautioned the drivers, and hinted of a possible demonstration to chase away errant drivers from using the road.

According to them, the road has become risky for schoolchildren since the drivers are reported to have been ignoring various traffic signs in the region that have been installed by the contractors.

”I am very disgusted with the way they are driving their matatus with a lot of impunity. They are very ignorant and violate various road signs that have been put by the contractor and this is unacceptable,” said Zachary Moindi.

“This habit ought to stop or else we take to the streets and ban some vehicles from using the route. We have already seen about four pedestrians involved in accidents here and we cannot take it anymore because it is also exposing our children into risk,” added Mary Ongoi.

The residents asked traffic police officers to bring checkpoints along the road in a bid to combat the vice by arresting those who are culpable.

”All these years we have seen a checkpoint at Metamaywa and I think time has come for the police to relocate to this place. We want those who are culpable to be arrested and arraigned in court for endangering lives of innocent Kenyans,” Ms Ongoi added.
