Maseno University Chancellor Michael Joseph has been asked to look into the development and facelift of the institution.
The newly inaugurated Chancellor has been asked to help the institution attain the standard that have been set by other universities such as the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University among others.
The university suffers dilapidated buildings and infrastructure as the road leading to the Siriba campus is in a bad state.
Students are also facing the pain of learning under tents due to inadequate lecture hall facilities.
Michael Joseph, who was Safaricom’s CEO, was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to succeed Prof.Florida Karani as the University’s Chancellor.
The Kenya Universities Students Union, KUSU Chairman Babu Owino asked the Chancellor to fast-track the development of the university as it is the only public university in Kisumu County.
“In as much as the Chancellor’s role is ceremonial, he can still help the institution to reach the standards set by other universities.
Michael Joseph has been at the helm of the leading mobile network providers in the world and that is why we feel that he has a major role to play in the development of the dilapidated university, “said Babu.
His sentiments were also echoed by KUSU Secretary General Charles Juma who is also the Students’ President at Maseno University who said that the new Chancellor should create a change in the institution.
