Kiambu youth have been advised to enroll for technical courses to boost their chances of getting employment.

County Minister for Youth Affairs Michael Waikenda said technical courses will equip with the much need life skills need in the employment sector.

Mr Waikenda observed that many youth are shunning technical courses for professional courses being offered at universities.

“It is time young people took technical courses to get skills that are critical in the employment sector,” said Waikenda, who visited the Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) on Saturday.

Waikenda said that technical courses are marketable and can offer young people employment.

He observed that the county government has pumped a lot of funds in technical institutions across Kiambu offering technical courses.

The Youth Minister said that though unemployment is a challenge, Kiambu government has taken various measures to address the menace.

The Minister cited the Uwezo and Biashara Funds which he said have helped thousands of youths and marginalized groups earn decent livelihoods.

“As the county we will continue to develop policies aimed at creating job opportunities for young people,” he said.

Waikenda also said that programmes are being mooted to train youths on entrepreneurship.
