A client aged about 30 years was over the weekend stabbed to death by a proprietor of a local restaurant at Manyatta Gonda market in Kisumu.

An eyewitness to the horrifying incident, Elly Oduor said it happened so fast following an argument over a balance of bill after the victim whose identity could not be immediately established took supper and a few drinks.

Oduor said he pleaded with the suspect, Elly Otieno Okumu to rush the victim to the hospital but instead of doing so Okumu reported to Kondele police station that a Jubilee party supporter had been attacked by NASA diehards aware that this was a lie.

He said heavily armed police arrived at the premise, Rusinga Resort Manyatta and found him at the scene. The officers were equally shocked when I informed them that indeed it was the complainant who stabbed the victim twice killing him on the spot, he explained.

He quickly added that it was not the first time the suspect was involved in such a vicious attack and was known to be a violent person even over flimsy reasons”, he revealed.

Okumu, 48, is a teacher at Joy land secondary school, Kisumu and was given the piece of land by his grandmother who transferred the piece to the name of the suspect’s mother since she didn’t give birth to a son.

The suspect was arrested soon after and taken to Kondele police station where he is being held as investigations into the incident kicked in.

Meanwhile, furious members of the public descended on the premise with rage destroying the entire building as looters scatted away whatever building materials like timber and iron sheets they could lay their hands on.

The unfortunate incident provided a golden opportunity for enthusiastic looters to rip the premise bare of used nails, timber, iron sheets, household goods and beer as confusion reigned.

Okumu’s stepbrother, Isaiah Opiyo Osir simply said the law has taken its course and so there was no need for members of the public to resort to such destruction of property and large-scale looting.

The looting was well coordinated with a section demolishing or removing iron sheets and timber as their collaborators scatted away building material.
