The recent meeting between Deputy President William Ruto and former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo in Kitale elicited mixed reactions with many seeing it as Ruto's political strategy to inflitrate NASA Raila Odinga's Nyanza support base. But Midiwo is seemingly trying to distance himself from such an arrangement if there is any.
Speaking during an interview on NTV on Tuesday, the former Gem MP who is also Raila Odinga's cousin and trusted ally, openly opposed DP Ruto's presidential ambitions saying it is not good for the country.
The former National Assembly Deputy Minority leader linked the 'hustler' ( as Ruto is popularly known to his supporters) to many corruption scandals including alleged land grabbing.
"Being a hustler does not mean you have to be a thief. Being a hustler does not mean you have to grab forests or school land. Being a hustler means getting up every morning and going to work," Midiwo said.
The DP has in the past few weeks found himself on the receiving end amid the referendum push by a section of politicians allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga.
His camp has openly opposed the push for a plebiscite to amend the constitution.
