Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo has criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jamhuri Day speech saying his remarks on NGOs and ICC were a cover-up by the government on its failures to the people.
Speaking during NTV's AMLive show on Tuesday morning, Midiwo said corruption was the main issue that Uhuru should have given priority.
"I think the President was not fair to the people on Jamhuri Day. He shifted focus to NGOs and ICC to try and hide his government's failures," said the minority leader.
"Kenyans are not uneducated to see that they are being taken for a ride. Let the President tackle corruption first before engaging NGOs and ICC on national discussions," he added.
During the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo stadium on Monday, the Head of State warned that NGOs were a source of money for some political outfits in the country.
He further hinted that the country would rethink its engagement with the Hague-based court -- ICC -- and also asked foreign countries not to interfere with next year's elections.
