Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has said the gun-weilding men who shot at his car in Migori town on Monday were trained security personnel. He also said in a statement that the shooting was an assassination attempt on him.During the incident, a bodyguard said to be attached to Migori Governor Okoth Obado is alleged to have fired bullets injuring Joho's security officer. The drama is said to have began when Governor Obado's supporters stormed the rally venue and began evicting those in attendance.Earlier on, Mr Obado is reported to have threatened to block the ODM brigade from addressing the rally."We believe that the events of today are part of a growing pattern of the politically motivated attacks and intolerance that we have witnessed in recent days even though until today, those attacks have mostly been verbal," Joho said in a statement after the incident."This pattern must be arrested before it escalates out of control.""Only thorough investigations and bringing of perpetrators to justice will save the situation. In the meantime, we appeal to the people of Migori to remain calm and be more steadfast in their support for and commitment to our party the Orange Development Movement,"read the statement in part.It is not the first time Joho is accusing security agencies of instigating violence against him.At the height of the war of words between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta, he accused the police of being used by the regime to harass him.Joho has announced his intention to run for president in 2022.
