The Luo Council of Elders might be dissolved after a section of elders from Migori County demanded its dissolution. The elders say that two rival factions led Nyandiko Ongadi and Opiyo Otondi have to be disbanded to establish constructive leadership in the community.
The elders led by branch chair Odak Mbaka accussed the two groups of tarnishing the image of Luo community for egocentric gains. He accused some elders of concentrating on politics that risk dividing the community.
“It is high time the two rival groups were dissolved to spare our respected community an image in the society. Or else political vested interests will tear it apart and cause disintegration to the community,” Mbaka said as quoted by the Star.
Mbaka asked Luo elders to have a long term vision for the community as opposed to worshiping politicians.
“As elders from Luo Community we must strive to speak with one voice instead of being puppets of politicians whose missions and visions may be parochial and short term,” he added.
