Sweet potatoes farmers in Migori county have reasons to smile following plans by the national government to set up a Ksh4 billion potato plant.
The appealing news was revealed by the principal secretary for devolution, Nelson Marwa, while touring Kuria region to survey a five-acre piece of land where President Kenyatta is expected to set up the Ksh4 billion potato plant.
The PS said that the move was in line with that of the government's big four agendas' fulfilment; Food security and manufacturing.
"The project aims at realising two of the Big Four agenda: food security and manufacturing. It will also offer jobs for young people and open up the region for more investment."We have already identified the land. The Ministry has also set aside funds for capacity building among farmers in order to increase production," he explained.
The farmers, while acknowledging the planned establishment, said that the move will increase their production, which will give them profits.
