Speaking to Journalists at the county assembly premises today, Paul Achayo said that the area’s faulty drainage system has led accumulation of stagnant water which he says posses a major health threat to residents.

The county legislator argued that the stagnant water caused by the freely flowing sewerage could be a habitat and breeding grounds for many disease causing agents.

“Such stagnant water could be a habitat and breeding grounds for animals such as snakes, frogs, mosquitoes among others,” he said.

He added: “This could cause a major threat to the residents as the rate at which mosquitoes, for instance breed, is very high in my ward.”

He challenged the County Executive Committee member in-charge of Health and Health services Dr Elizabeth Ogaja to allocate funds towards the treatment of the stagnant waters to kill the pests and other dangerous animals.

The legislator also added that treatment of the stagnant water and spraying of the surroundings could also serve to reduce the stench that comes from the stagnant sewerage waters.
