So after all, Miguna Miguna is taking us through unnecessary drama for totally nothing.
The guy, as it turns out, is not a Kenyan.
Problem with him is that he wants to use a political solution for a legal problem. He wants to use NASA numbers to get Kenyan citizenship.
During a recent interview with Jeff Koinange, it turned out that the lawyer had acquired a Canadian citizenship before 2009 which meant that he denounced his Kenyan citizenship.
At that time, it was illegal for a Kenyan citizen to have dual citizenship.
The fact that he was a Canadian citizen meant that by default he had lost his Kenyan citizenship.
Drama around his deportation has always revolved around the state of his citizenship: the lawyer has insisted that he is a citizen of Kenya while the government has maintained the stance that he needs to re-apply for the Kenyan passport before being allowed back into the country.
In the interview, Miguna acknowledges that he received his Kenyan passport in 2009 after staying in Canada since 1987. He however fails to defend himself on the fact that it was illegal by then to have two citizenships, which terminates the second (Kenyan) one at the time.
Miguna knows he is not a citizen any longer. Why can't he swallow his pride and reapply for the document?
