Self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna has made damning accusations against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Speaking on Saturday during NRM’s tour in Minneapolis, Miguna hit out at the commission, claiming it is incapable of holding credible elections.
“A system has been put in place in Kenya today that has made free, fair, democratic, verifiable, credible election impossible no matter how good or clear you are ideologically,” said Miguna.
“It doesn’t matter how many people vote for you or what with what margin you have won in an election. The person that will be declared the winner in the election is not the one people chose,” he added.
The vocal lawyer claimed that IEBC was not independent, terming the commission as a branch of the Jubilee party.
“The so-called IEBC is not independent, it is an appendage of Jubilee Party headed by Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto,” said Miguna.
He further hit out at IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati and CEO Ezra Chiloba, accusing them of dancing to the government’s tune.
“Chebukati is Uhuru’s errand boy that goes to his office like a lamb, takes instructions and executes them. Chiloba works for Interior PS Karanja Kibicho,” he said.
Miguna argued that former IEBC commissioner Roslyn Akombe who is currently residing in New York can confirm the allegations.
“Ask Akombe, she will confirm what I’m saying. She was in the same commission and was forced into exile because of the same material conditions,” said Miguna.
