Immigration Department PS Gordon Kihalangwa has said that ID card NRM general Miguna Miguna holds is an illegal document.
Speaking during a convention with the Parliamentary Committee on Tuesday at Continental House, Nairobi, Kihalangwa said Miguna Miguna will have to follow due processes to get a new ID card as he regularizes his Kenyan citizenship.
“The ID card Miguna has today is an invalid document. Even if he regains his citizenship he will have to go to the National Registration Bureau to get an ID so that he can process his passport,” he told the Parliamentary Committee on National Security on Tuesday.
Kihalangwa, CS Matiang'i, IG Boinnet and Interior PS Karanja Kibicho were summoned by the Parliamentary Committee to explain the deportation of Miguna Miguna.
The leaders argued that Miguna lost his Kenyan citizenship when he gained Canadian citizenship hence the need to apply for a new passport according to the 2010 constitution.
Kihalangwa urged Miguna to make new application through the immigration department after which the documents will be forwarded to the Cabinet Secretary for approval. After endorsement by the CS he will then apply for a new ID card through the National Registration Bureau.
