Religious leaders in Uasin Gsihu County have called for a quick solution to be reached over the Miguna Miguna issue.
Led by the county’s Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini, the leaders have termed ongoing standoff over Miguna Miguna’s reentry into the country as a big shame for the nation.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Wednesday, Bini said it was unfortunate that the government had resorted to bluntly disregard the law.
“The country now looks like nobody cares about the existing laws and this is setting a very bad precedent,” warned the CIPK chairman.
“Relevant government agencies need to act decisively so that the mess being witnessed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is brought to an end as soon as possible,” he added.
Bini further challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to come out and ensure the matter is resolved amicably.
“We were very happy with the handshake between the President and opposition leader Raila Odinga but the manner in which the government has handled the Miguna Miguna issue has taken us several steps backward,” he said.
“It’s sand that such incidences are happening at our international airport giving us a bad name in the eyes of the whole world,” added the Eldoret clergy.
The Miguna Miguna drama seems to be far from over as the Immigration department has maintained their stand that the self-proclaimed National Resistance Movement (NRM) general must hand in his travel documents and apply afresh his Kenyan citizenship.
