Sakaja took to social media to condemn the nomination by Sonko asking followers to take his opinion "to the bank".

"Miguna will not become the Deputy Governor of Nairobi. Take that to the bank," Sakaja declared on Twitter

Governor Sonko on Wednesday evening nominated Miguna Miguna as his deputy after long spells of the seat being empty. He said Miguna Miguna is his best choice and would wish to work together with him in developing the city.

Nairobi county assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi however noted that they will seek clarification from the government on Miguna's citizenship before proceeding with vetting.

She added that should the government declared that he is not a Kenyan citizen then he will have to follow the due procedure to reapply, a process that will take 3-4 months according to her.

"I would tell Miguna to first clear his issues with the Kenyan gov’t. He is Canadian. That procedure can take us 3-4 months.

"The Governor has given us a nominee. We will follow the law. The constitution is clear that a Deputy Governor needs to be a Kenyan citizen," she stated

Miguna Miguna was to return to the country on Wednesday 16 May but cancelled the travel due to lack of Kenyan passport.
