The clamour for a referendum by the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) is not only ill-advised but also unnecessary.

Cord leader Raila Odinga's former aide Miguna Miguna said this while speaking during a breakfast show on a national radio station on Thursday.

Miguna dismissed the whole Okoa Kenya referendum idea insisting that its sole aim was to assist some power hungry individuals to attain power.

He also lambasted the opposition for lacking a referendum question and advised them to first single out what they wanted addressed by the referendum before "confusing" Kenyans to endorse the idea.

"A referendum must have a question that it seeks to address. However look at Cord, they really don't know whether what they want is to increase funding to the county governments or to strengthen the Senate. They should first have a clear conscience of what they really seek before roping in clueless Kenyans to back the initiative," he said.

The controversial lawyer has also authored two stinging books on Raila; 'Peeling Back The Mask' and Kidneys for the King: Deforming the Status Quo in Kenya', singled out Raila accusing him of fronting the referendum out of sheer greed for power.

He added that the opposition leader at first endorsed the presidential system of governance but changed midway to a Parliamentary system of government after losing to President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013.
