In a tweet Wednesday, the outspoken leader rubbished the calls for a referendum, maintaining that the proposed changes cannot solve the nation's challenges revolving around tribalism and theft of public resources.

He noted that the proposed expansion of the top national leadership structure will have no effect on the current extra judicial killings and disrespect of court orders by the state, stating that the same can only be fully resolved by a leadership overhaul.

He said that the nation needs new visionary leaders of integrity to make a step away from the troubles.

"A referendum cannot solve the society's intractable problems. It won't eliminate tribalism, theft of public resources, extrajudicial killings, human right abuses, disobedience of court orders, homelessness and joblessness," he said. "These will only be solved by visionary leaders of integrity," added the former Nairobi county boss hopeful.

The referendum debate is being spearheaded by opposition leaders who are pushing for the expansion of the executive to introduce the prime ministerial slot.

They have also proposed that the nation abandons its current presidential leadership system for the initial parliamentary one.
