The self-declared National Resistances Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna has responded after the County Assembly of Nairobi rejected his nomination for the Deputy Governor office.
In their rejection reasons, they said Miguna could not be picked due to his dual citizenship status.
The Nairobi County Assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi referred to Article 78 of the Constitution.
However, after a Twitter post by one Jerotich Seii pointing that “Elachi’s ignorance of the constitution and citizenship is evident”, Miguna could not wait to respond.
“Comrade Jerotich, Elachi isn’t ignorant. The choreographed malicious distractions are and have been deliberate from the beginning,” said Miguna.
“The government knows that I am a Kenyan citizen by birth and I never lost it (citizenship). They have not tabled any credible evidence that I lost my citizenship,” noted the Canadian barrister.
Miguna also noted that the IEBC cleared him to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2017 as an independent candidate.
“I don’t belong to any political outfit except the #NRMKe. I was a Kenyan registered voter in 2007, 2013 and 2017. I never applied for nor considered to be Mike Sonko’s deputy.”
On the other side, Nairobi Governor’s Mike Sonko also tendered his response.
“I hereby wish to accept the decision of the Nairobi County Assembly rejecting the nomination of Dr Miguna Miguna as Nairobi Deputy Governor on the basis that he is a dual citizen as provided for under Article 78 of the Constitution.”
