The constitutional amendment push emerged immediately after Uhuru's truce with opposition leader Raila Odinga on March 9, with Miguna now saying that its aimed at benefiting both leaders.

Despite being widely associated with Odinga's allies who have openly endorsed the push for the expansion of the executive to allow for the establishment of a powerful Prime Ministerial post and a ceremonial President, Miguna now claims that the President is the main sponsor of the bid as he seeks to take over the new post upon his retirement in 2022.

According to the vocal lawyer, the former Prime Minister is on the other hand set to be crowned the powerless head of state upon the realization of the law changes.

"Mr Uhuru Kenyatta is a tyrant trying to reinvent himself into a powerful Prime Minister with bigger guns to kill our people. Raila Odinga has betrayed his people to become the ceremonial President just like he was a ceremonial Prime Minister," tweeted the embattled barrister on Monday.

Both Odinga and Kenyatta have, however, remained mum on the leadership changes, with the Orange party chief instead pushing for the introduction of a 3-tier government.

The issue has since caused jitters in Deputy President William Ruto's quarters, with the DP and his allies vowing to battle the motion should it be tabled.
