Armed officers claimed to be from the military stopped Miguna at a roadblock as he journeyed to Kikambala to join other opposition leaders who were at a meeting convened and chaired by Raila. He was detained for hours.

Earlier reports indicated Miguna was held by police but a senator, according to The Standard, claimed military officials were involved.

“Illegitimate usurpers of power used more than 50 heavily armed goons, set up roadblocks in Mombasa, illegally detained one unarmed #NRM general for hours and prevented him from attending the People’s Assembly at Kikambala, Kilifi. Desperate, weak and crumbling despots,” Miguna wrote on Twitter.

The daylong meeting was convened to discuss NASA’s strategy against Jubilee including Raila’s declared intention to be ‘sworn-in’ as President through the mandate of the People’s Assembly.

Among those in attendance were governors Amason Kingi (Kilifi) and his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho.

Also present were NASA strategist David Ndii and MPs Abdulswamad Nasir (Mvita), Aisha Jumwa (Malindi) Suleiman Dori (Msambweni) and Mishi Mboko (Likoni).
