President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are using underhand tactics to change the constitution as they seek to retain power, Former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Miguna Miguna has said.

According to the vocal politician, the two leaders want to retain their posts through unconstitutional means.   Miguna also said that the duo has resorted to oppressive ways of governance following the nullification of their win. He compared the actions of the two leaders to  Mohamad Mahithir, the fourth prime minister of Malaysia.

“Both President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto are using DRACONIAN methods of Malaysia's Mahithir in 1988 to subvert the Constitution,” he said, as quoted by Standard.

The remarks of the politician come at a time when the nation is facing political uncertainty following the move by the National Super Alliance(NASA) Presidential candidate, Raila Amolo Odinga to withdraw from the race. Odinga, who is known for his firm stand, has threatened to mobilize his supporters to boycott the rerun.

The leader of the opposition has insisted that he is not ready to take part in the fresh election unless his irreducible demands are met. He wants IEBC CEO and other officials of the commission thought to have been behind Uhuru’s August win fired before the exercise.
