A section of elders from the Mijikenda community have given the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party a 24-hour ultimatum to give Mombasa senatorial aspirant Hamisi Mwaguya the nomination certificate. The elders argued that Mwaguya won in a free and fair manner, adding that he deserves the party ticket to vie for the seat. Addressing journalists at Majaoni in Utange, the Secretary General of the Mijikenda Community, Kitsao Ngonyo ,said the elders will take an unspecified action in the event that Mwaguya is not given the ticket.Ngonyo also said it is the will of the people for Mwaguya to be on the ballot box, adding that the Party's National Elections Board should not be a stumbling block in their quest for justice before the elections.“We want to see justice taking its course. We are giving the ODM nomination board 72 hours to announce the winner of the senatorial seat in Mombasa County,” said Ngonyo.Kitsao Swaleh, the deputy chairman of the community reiterated Ngonyo’s sentiments saying Mwaguya had won the nominations, adding that they are becoming suspicious of what the ODM top brass is planning ahead to the polls in August. “We urge the nomination board to announce the winner of the seat. Our community elected Mwaguya without any shed of doubt for he is the only person who can bring us change in this community,” said Swaleh.
