Nairobi governor, Mike Sonko, has signed the Nairobi County Appropriations Bill 2017 authorising the release of over Sh35.9 billion budget for Nairobi county. Nairobi County Assembly had earlier ordered the republishing of the Appropriation Bill after it was inappropriately published before ward representatives had approved budget estimates. “The Bill is meant to authorize expenditure out of the County Exchequer Account for certain public services and purposes enacted by the Assembly,” said Governor Mike Sonko according to Citizen tv. Sonko also touched on the Friday morning Gikomba fire which consumed properties worth millions. He said compensations would be calculated after the exact cause of the inferno is staged. “We have a budget under our disaster management unit and we are going to address the issue once we know the actual damage,” Sonko said. Sonko has been working closely to restore Nairobi like he pledged prior to elections.
