Nairobi governor elect Mike Mbuvi Sonko has hit out at the Opposition leader Raila Odinga for telling his supporters not to report to work on Monday.
Raila on Sunday asked his supporters to stay at home as they await his major announcement on Tuesday.
The ODM chief spoke during his first rally at Kamukunji grounds in Kibra, Nairobi, after losing to president Uhuru Kenyatta in the just concluded elections.
Sonko has however asked Kenyans to ignore Raila’s remarks and resume to work adding that the former prime minister has no authority to call for a public holiday. He noted that the National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader's sentiments were aimed at creating tension among Kenyans.
“Raila has no authority to declare any day a holiday. We, therefore, ask Kenyans to ignore the calls and continue with their activities as usual,” Sonko told the press, Sunday.
The outgoing Nairobi senator further urged Kenyans to forget about the polls and move on with their lives. He assured all those who will report to their work stations that they will be provided with security.
“We need to put elections behind us. We assure the residents that we shall provide maximum security everywhere within the county,” Sonko noted.
