Nairobi County government on Friday conducted awareness clinics for Eastland Youths to sensitise them on dangers of drug abuse.
Alcohol Drinks Control and Licensing Board in conjunction with Uwezo Youth Fund is working around the clock to help in the fight of drug and alcohol addiction among Eastland's youths.
According to the board, there is a sudden increase in the abuse of drugs which needs immediate education in order to mitigate the drug abuse among youth.
Speaking to NTV reporter in an interview during the workshop, Stephen Kambi, representing Liquor Licencing Board, Nairobi County, the move is basically to equip the youth with information on opportunities.
"So as the Liquor Licencing Board, Nairobi County, through the able leadership of our able governor Mike Sonko we found it wise to start engaging youth especially from this side of Nairobi Eastlands by at least imparting information unto them on government opportunities both in the national government and in the county government," said Mr Kambi.
So far, they have visited Kibera, Dagoreti and Embakasi constituencies. They will engage in rehabilitation program as well of the affected youths who will be rehabilitated in Mbagathi and Mama Lucy Kibaki hospitals.
"We have been equipped with the information we would use to educate them. We have also been educated on job platforms, how to share this and how we can get Uwezo Fund," said Pauline Wanjiru, member of Youth Development Fund in Kayole.
The board will aslo be taking same workshops to Lang'ata and Westlands constituencies in the coming week.
