According to the Kenya Dairy Farmers Federation (KDFF) Sh4 will be added on the current milk prices starting this week. The Federation says that the increase has been necessitated by the ravaging drought sweeping through various parts of the country.

KDFF CEO David Bett added that the increase is as a result of the increased prices of animal feeds and water.

The CEO noted that the increase was agreed after lengthy stakeholders meeting held last week.

"Stakeholders have approved a Sh4 increase on milk prices basing on the current drought ravaging some parts of the country," he said as quoted by the Standard Newspaper.

The KDFF CEO added that consultations are ongoing on whether to increase prices for other milk products.

He said that the Federation is working closely with consumer organisations to ensure that milk prices are within range in order to protect the consumer.

He further said that prices will drop once the country long rains expected in April start.

Most parts of the country are experiencing ravaging drought with two million Kenyans facing starvation according to the national government.

This comes as prices for foodstuff and basic necessities have started to skyrocket.

Last week President Uhuru Kenyatta said that no Kenyan will die of hunger.

He said that the national government will double relief food distribution in areas worst hit by the ravaging famine.
