John Kibe, milk bar operator in Molo town, says that reports from Kenya dairy board indicates that milk production has gone down hence affecting the prices of the commodity.

Kibe said that the reduction of milk production has seen raw milk price hiking.

Kibe is currently selling a litre of milk at Sh50, five more shillings compared with last month.

"Majority of small scale farmers are unable to conserve cattle feeds making it difficult for them to feed their lactating cows during the dry spell," notes Kibe.

Kibe supplies, Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) Molo branch, with milk during rainy season.

He said he has been able to help farmers form a group which equals a co-oparative society to enable them develop high milk production and bargain for better prices.

"As one of large scale dairy farmer who deliver milk to KCC I discuss with the management on prices," said Kibe.

He added that farmers keep on pressing them to add them more money on their milk so that they can be in a position to feed their animals.
