Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Willy Bett has put on notice millers increasing maize flour prices.

He said those who will be found inflating the prices will face the full force of the law.

“I am wondering why the millers have decided to hike the maize flour prices yet they are buying maize at Sh 2700 to Sh3,000 per 90kg, therefore, we don’t expect the price of flour to go beyond Sh 115 per 2 kg packet,” he said in Eldoret town, Thursday.

“We recently held meetings with millers and agreed that even if they increase the maize flour prices should not be more than Sh115 per 2 kg but I am surprised that some millers are selling their flour up to Sh150 per 2 kg,” he added.

A spot check by this writer in the various supermarket in Eldoret town found out that the prices of maize flour had been increased from the subsidized price of Sh 90 to arrange of between Sh120 and Sh139 per a 2 kg packet.
