Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo has accused the Jubilee government of allegedly using police to intimidate and harass Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday, the vocal MP said that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to lock Joho out of the Mtongwe Ferry launch in Likoni two weeks ago was a clear indication that Jubilee wants to frustrate Joho’s work, adding that they are threatened by his political rise in the Coast region.
“It is clear that Uhuru’s government feels threatened by Joho’s political rise in the Coast and wants to frustrate him,” she said.
The Mbita lawmaker also hit out at the police for stopping Joho’s rally at Kinango in Kwale on Thursday, adding that the officers have no right to stop a peaceful campaign.
“The move by Kinango police to stop Joho’s rally on Thursday was unconstitutional,” she said.
Joho’s rally in Kinango was stopped by armed police who lobbed tear gas to disperse supporters.
According to Kinango OCPD Lawrence Charo, Joho’s rally had not been approved by the county security team.
Last week, Joho was forced to cancel his rally in Mpeketoni, Lamu County, after encountering a hostile reception.
The governor had to cut short his tour after angry locals pelted stones and unripe mangoes at his motorcade.
Joho later blamed Jubilee for the hostile reception.
