Property worth millions of shillings went up in flames after a fierce fire gutted a macadamia factory store on Tuesday evening.
Kiambu chief fire fighter Samuel Kahura who confirmed the incident said it was fortunate that no one was injured during the incident.
One of the stores at the macadamia factory which is located near Munene Industries in Thika Town caught fire on Tuesday evening.
The fire is said to have started at one of the corners of the factory's stores, where macadamia refuse is stored, and quickly spread to other parts of the room, reducing property worth million of shillings into ashes.
Kahura said the fire fighters managed to put out the fire with the help from the police and the area residents.
“The fire fighters collaborated well with the police and the residents of this area. We managed to contain the fire before it spread to adjacent buildings,” said Kahura.
According to an eye witness who spoke on condition of anonymity said there were no operations going on at the store at the time of the fire outbreak.
The witness said they suspect the fire spread fast because of the cartons which are used to store the nuts and the oil extracted from them which were stored inside the store.
“The fire started in one of the stores and spread very fast to other parts but luckily fire fights managed to arrive on time to put out the fire,” said the witness.
